Welcome to Redemption International for the Blind's Home

BLINDFOLD YOURSELF FOR JUST 30 SECONDS AND FOR ONCE IMAGINE WHAT TOTAL DARKNESS FOR LIFE FEELS LIKE!

Redemption International for the Blind is a Non Profit-making International Charitable Organization that is founded A Visually Impaired Person With White Cane to carter for the special needs of the blind and the visually impaired in Nigeria in particular and the other African countries in general. As it stands, we shall concentrate our resources on meeting the needs of the blind and partially sighted in Nigeria. However, with the passing of time and as the organization grows, we hope to incorporate other forms of disabilities into our action plan.

We want to advance the education of the blind and partially sighted in Nigeria by the provision of a Computer Training and Braille Resource Center where the blind and the partially sighted in Nigeria shall have ample opportunity to acquire computer literacy and some of their relevant study materials transcribed into braille.

We are also planning to establish a pilot project center to be sited in Owerri, Imo State of Nigeria to be called and known as “Redemption International For The Blind Computer Training And Braille Resource Center” that will train the blind and partially sighted on how to use the computer and have some of their relevant study materials brailed.

Education for the Blind in the third World Countries, particularly in Africa, for instance, Nigeria, supposedly the giant of Africa, is indeed a true nightmare. It is oftentimes a Herculean task appearing almost seemingly impossible to overcome. In fact in most cases, success in blind education in Nigeria is entirely dependent on the individual. You are simply on your own!

Do you know that in every 5 seconds, one person in the world goes blind; every minute, one child in the world goes blind? 314 million people are visually impaired. Out of these, 37 million are blind. 1.4 million children under the age of 15 are blind, and of significance, more than 90% of the world’s visually impaired people live in low and middle income families most of which are found in countries across Africa and Asia.

This is why we have come; we have come to make a difference; to give hope to the Blind; to give help to the Blind; to give them the much needed support either through some form of funding or by providing relevant specialist equipment needed to enhance their human dignity and academic endeavors; we have come to ensure that all relevant study materials for the Blind from primary to tertiary are put in Braille; to help the blind acquire computer literacy, to give the Blind in Nigeria a VOICE and to speak out on their behalf; to bring their matter before various State Governments and the Federal Government of Nigeria and to ensure a National Policy for the general well-being of the Disabled is formulated and enacted into law in Nigeria, including  working to secure a practical implementation of the provisions of The Nigerians With Disabilities Decree 1993 alongside the UN Convention on the rights of persons with disabilities. By the grace of God, we shall succeed.

Our vision is to give hope to the hopeless, succor to the needy, and help to the helpless.

Our mission is to restore full honor and dignity to disability. Disability does not mean the end of the road.

Tunde's Story - Tunde's left sight was attacked by measles at the age of 3. "My left eye was damaged as a result of the measles but I could still manage to see with my right eye." It didn't took long before he lost his right sight. "My parents spent money and time trying to help me regain my lost sight but to no avail as I was further attacked by Cataract in the right eye." Now, as a communication and technology expert, he is using his skills to help others... Click here to read Tunde's full story...
